Book Description

This OER text seeks to reimagine the college essay across a number of different modalities and subjectivities. Attention is paid to how traditional research has changed over the last ten years; the importance of multimodal instruction and composition; and how concepts like “authority,” “coherence,” and “standard English” carry cultural, economic, and political connotations that can be, when acknowledged and integrated into the process, meaningfully addressed to ensure as many students as possible are engaged and empowered to create meaningful and impactful forms of intentional, academic content.

This project was funded by the MHCC Foundation OER Grant Program.
