Code Practice

This chapter supports Lesson 2, page 5.

OBJECTIVE

After completing this unit, you should be able to:

  • identify CNC codes for turning coolant on and off

Coolant Codes

CNC machine tools are very powerful and can run at amazing speeds. These cutting actions generate a hot of heat.  Coolant is liquid which is used a lot in CNC machine operations.

The word “flood” is common. It means that coolant is coming out in a very large quantity.  Having the doors shut on a CNC machine keeps the large amount of coolant inside the CNC machine.

Coolant is turned on before cutting operations begin.

M08 is the code for coolant on.

After cutting is complete, M09 turns the coolant off.
