Lead In

Code Practice

OBJECTIVE

After completing this unit, you should be able to:

  • understand the purpose for a Lead In
  • describe the movement of Lead In

With G41/G42 commands, the starting position of the tool needs to pieces of information.   The Z depth and position of cutter radius + 0.100 to off the part and ready to cut.

This is the moment of Lead In.

The speed will start.  The tool will not move in two directions.  The program will only allow the tool to move in one direction.  The Lead In uses the opposite direction of the first cut. In this situation the X-axis and the Y-axis are opposites.

For example. If the direction of the first cut is in the X-axis, the Lead In will be in the Y-Axis and vice versa.
