Objectives

  1. Define the nine dimensions of wellness
  2. Compare modifiable risk factors for disease
  3. Identify the Social Determinants of Health
  4. Identify the behaviors that promote wellness
  5. Apply behavior modification strategies to personal life: behavior modification: barriers to change, and how to successfully overcome barriers and goal setting

Terminology

  • Health – Absence of Disease
  • Wellness – optimal state of mind and body
  • Behavior Modification – the alteration of behavioral patterns through specific techniques
  • Goal Setting – the process of identifying something you want to accomplish and establishing measurable goals and timeframes
  • Barriers – something that stands in the way of you achieving your goals
